The eyes of four exchange students sparkle as they come into the little town of Rusk, Texas. All of these students wanted to live the American life and see how we live. Each of these students has a different culture that is special.  Now it’s time to meet the students.

Beatrice Benecchi – Parma, Italy

Why did you choose to go to America?

Because it is my dream since I was a child and I’m fascinated with American culture. I want to experience making new friends and improve my English.

What were you expecting when you came to Texas?

Really big countryside and lots of cows and nice people.

What is the coolest thing you have experienced in Texas?

Prom dress shopping in Dallas because in Italy we don’t have prom.

What is the most surprising thing you have experienced in Texas?

A lot of fast food and people are really nice.

Giulia Voza – Bari, Italy

Why did you choose to go to America?

I wanted to perfect my English and know more about American culture and lifestyle. I also wanted a new and overwhelming experience to get out of my comfort zone.

What were you expecting when you came to Texas?

I expected Texas to be full of natural places and more country than cities and for people to be nice and welcoming.

What is the coolest thing you have experienced in Texas?

The Rodeo because I didn’t know it was a real thing; seeing animals and horses.

What is the most surprising thing you have experienced in Texas?

Everybody is kind. People want to know about my culture and they make you feel really comfortable.

Tyrese Hauck – Heidelberg, Germany

Why did you choose to go to America?

I always wanted to see how life here is. You always see life in the movies, but as a foreigner, I can’t really know if it’s really true, so I took the chance to go here.

What were you expecting when you came to Texas?

A lot of cowboys, cows, and dust. We only hear boring stuff about Texas.

What is the coolest thing you have experienced in Texas?

The Texas State Fair in Dallas. It was really fun to see attractions and eat a lot of unique foods.

What is the most surprising thing you have experienced in Texas?

That hunting and sports are a big thing here. We really don’t hunt and sports are not that big of a deal.

Ely Nuzzo – Naples, Italy

Why did you choose to go to America?

It was my dream since I was a baby. I wanted to live an American life like in the movies and learn English.

What were you expecting when you came to Texas?

Everything was like a desert.

What is the coolest thing you have experienced in Texas?

The school here because it is very different, but I expected it was, with lots of fun activities.

What is the most surprising thing you have experienced in Texas?

The teens here work a lot. I didn’t imagine that they prefer work to hanging out more. They can drive at 16, but in Italy, we can at 18. I thought they did more activities.
